MICHAEL NEAL FROM MILTON KEYNES AND BLETCHLEY ESCAPES PRISON AFTER DECADES OF ABUSE

In a case that has spanned over 28 years, a woman from Milton Keynes has finally seen justice served after enduring a long and painful battle to hold her abuser accountable.

Allie Short, now 41 years old, courageously chose to waive her right to remain anonymous in order to warn others about Michael Neal, a man who once held a respected position within the community of Bletchley.

Allie’s ordeal began when she was just 13 years old.

She initially reported her abuse to the police, revealing that Neal, a well-known figure at the Warren children’s centre on the Lakes Estate, had been sexually assaulting her and her brother since they were very young.

Neal, who was affectionately called “Big Mick” by the local children, was considered a pillar of the community, which made her accusations even more difficult to confront.

Despite her detailed confession, the case did not result in any immediate action at the time, as it was her word against Neal’s.

Over the years, Allie struggled with the trauma of her experiences.

She described herself as being a “mess” during her teenage years, battling psychological issues and trust problems.

However, by her mid-twenties, she resolved to rebuild her life, finding work, establishing stability, and entering a long-term relationship.

Despite these positive steps, the memories of Neal’s abuse persisted in the background of her mind.

It was only a few years ago that Allie, still haunted by her past and supported by her brother Tony, decided to revisit the case.

This time, her approach was different.

She contacted the local police, and her renewed efforts led to a thorough investigation.

Detective Miranda Moore spearheaded the case, which ultimately resulted in Neal’s conviction on 13 charges of indecent assault committed during the 1970s and 1980s.

The assaults took place on the Lakes Estate, where Neal was employed as the handyman at the Warren children’s centre.

Neal, now 81 years old and residing in Milton Keynes sheltered housing, was deemed unfit to stand trial and enter a plea.

As a result, he was sentenced to a supervision order that prohibits him from having any contact with children.

The sentence marked a significant victory for Allie and her family, who expressed relief that justice had finally been achieved.

However, Allie emphasized the lasting impact Neal’s actions had on her life, stating, “This man ruined my life and I want everyone to know about him.

He was like the Pied Piper with children—I can’t believe we were his only victims.” When asked if she had confided in any adults at the time of the assaults, Allie explained that she had told her mother, but she doubted her mother believed her.

“He was a real pillar of the community on the Lakes Estate in those days, and everywhere he went, he was surrounded by children.

The adults all thought he was wonderful,” she recalled.

Reflecting on the impact of the abuse, Allie shared that her teenage years were marked by psychological struggles and trust issues.

Despite her efforts to move forward, the memories lingered.

She expressed her desire to speak out publicly, saying, “I want others to know what this man was really like and how he groomed me.

If I’m brave enough to come forward and tell my story, then other victims of sexual assaults might find courage to go to the police rather than suffer in silence.” Allie praised the Milton Keynes police for their support during her renewed investigation.

She noted that she was initially worried about not being taken seriously again but was reassured by the professionalism and compassion of Detective Miranda Moore and the police team.

Her case stands as a testament to perseverance and the importance of justice for victims of childhood abuse.
