In December 2019, a 19-year-old man from Pocklington, identified as Michael Laverick, was handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious crimes, including a series of sexual offences involving two schoolgirls. The conviction followed a trial held at Hull Crown Court in October of the same year, where Laverick was found guilty of numerous charges.Michael Laverick, who resides on Denison Road in Pocklington, faced justice for a disturbing pattern of criminal behavior. His crimes spanned a range of serious offences, notably including sexual assault, rape, and related acts of violence, as well as drug supply and threats to kill. The court's sentencing reflects the gravity of his actions and the need for public safety.
He was sentenced to a total of 16 years in prison, with the sentences for each individual offence to run concurrently. The specific sentences handed down include a 12-year and 6-month term for rape, which was subsequently extended to 16 years, indicating the severity of that particular crime. Additionally, he received a 6-year sentence for assault by penetration, and a 5-year and 6-month term for sexual assault by penetration. An attempt to commit rape resulted in a 5-year and 6-month sentence, while other sexual assault charges carried a 1-year term.
Beyond the sexual offences, Laverick was also convicted of threatening to kill, which resulted in a 6-month sentence. His involvement in drug-related activities was also addressed, with two separate 6-month sentences for supplying Class A drugs. Furthermore, he was found to have breached a suspended sentence, leading to an additional 6-month term, and was convicted of common assault, which resulted in a 1-month sentence.
The court also imposed dangerous offender provisions on Laverick. This means that if he is released before completing the full 16-year term, he will remain under supervision and serve the remainder of his sentence on licence, ensuring continued monitoring and restrictions to protect the community.
Overall, the sentencing underscores the serious nature of Michael Laverick’s crimes and the judicial system’s response to protect vulnerable individuals and uphold justice in Pocklington and the surrounding areas.
