EXETER MAN JAILED FOR HISTORIC CHILD SEX CRIMES
Michael John West, aged 54, formerly of the Wonford area of Exeter, has been sentenced to six years and six months in prison for historic sexual crimes against three children.
The offences date back to the late 1980s and early 1990s.
West was charged with multiple indecent assaults and indecency with a child two years prior to his guilty plea, which he finally made in July this year, over two years after the initial charges.
He appeared at Exeter Crown Court and was found guilty of seven offences involving three victims, which led to his sentencing.
The court ordered West to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
Police confirmed that West targeted children in Exeter and committed multiple acts of abuse across various occasions.
Detectives praised the victims for their resilience and bravery, which contributed to the successful prosecution.
Detective Constable Kathryn Jago highlighted the victims' courage and thanked them for their support, noting that West only entered guilty pleas on the day of trial, after a lengthy investigation and a considerable delay since his initial charges.
