DERBY MAN SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS FOR RAPE AND ASSAULT
A woman was subjected to a violent assault after a man forcibly dragged her into nearby bushes, according to court testimony.The attacker, Michael James, aged 25, ignored her pleas to stop and proceeded to sexually assault her, resulting in a traumatic experience.
During the trial at Derby Crown Court, it was revealed that the woman ceased resisting, believing that continuing would only escalate the violence.
James then falsely told police that the encounter was consensual but was ultimately convicted on multiple charges, including two counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, and one count of assault by penetration.
He received a prison sentence of 13 years, consisting of 10 years in custody and an extended three-year license period.
Additionally, the court mandated that he register as a sex offender for life.
The victim testified that she struggled with self-image issues, unable to look at herself in the mirror and blaming herself initially, with severe psychological effects persisting even after two and a half years, including flashbacks.
