MICHAEL DIBBLE OF CWMBRAN SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE IN CARDIFF

In a case that has shocked the local community and brought to light the heinous actions of a man from Cwmbran, Michael Dibble, aged 37, has been convicted and sentenced for a series of serious sexual offenses against a teenage girl. Dibble, who previously worked as an security guard, was described as a physically imposing individual standing 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing nearly 20 stone. His crimes, which spanned multiple forms of sexual assault, have left a lasting scar on the victim and the community alike.

According to court proceedings held at Cardiff Crown Court, Dibble was found guilty of a total of 17 charges, including four counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, as well as charges of indecent assault and acts of gross indecency. The case was particularly notable because the teenage girl, despite the trauma she endured, displayed remarkable bravery by giving her testimony via a video link, a method that was among the first of its kind in the area for an adult victim of sexual abuse. Judge Mervyn Hughes, presiding over the case, paid tribute to her courage and described Dibble as a “sordid and evil” individual.

During the sentencing, Judge Hughes sentenced Dibble to 10 years in prison. The judge also emphasized the severity of Dibble’s conduct, noting that his actions encompassed nearly every form of sexual abuse imaginable. The court highlighted that Dibble had engaged in a degree of planning that allowed him to evade detection for some time. The judge expressed no sympathy for Dibble, especially considering that he denied all charges, forcing the victim to relive her traumatic experiences during the trial, which the court described as “a harrowing experience.”

Following his release from prison, Dibble will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, a standard measure for individuals convicted of such serious offenses. During the trial, prosecutor Ieuan Bennett described the case as involving “a course of physical assault rather than a catalogue of indecency,” underscoring the brutality of the crimes. Dibble maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, claiming that the allegations were entirely fabricated. His defense lawyer, Huw Wallace, acknowledged that the victim had been affected by the events and that there was evidence of planning and sexual indignities, but argued that Dibble was “a man of good character” outside of these incidents.
