MICHAEL CREWS FROM EXHALL AND BEDWORTH SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES
In a significant case that has shocked the communities of Exhall and Bedworth, Michael Crews, a resident of Exhall, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after admitting to a series of heinous child sex offences.The conviction follows a thorough investigation by Warwickshire Police, which uncovered disturbing details spanning over two decades.
Crews, aged 71 and residing at The Waterfront in Exhall, was taken into custody in May 2018 after authorities responded to reports from two men who revealed they had been abused by him during their childhood.
These initial reports prompted a detailed investigation by the Serious and Complex Crime team, which subsequently uncovered additional allegations involving six more children.
The offences attributed to Crews took place between 1996 and 2016, with the victims ranging in age from just six to eleven years old.
The crimes occurred within the localities of Exhall and Bedworth, areas where Crews was known to frequent.
The nature of the offences was particularly disturbing, involving multiple counts of indecent assault and inappropriate touching.
During the court proceedings, Crews pleaded guilty to a total of 27 charges.
These included 12 counts of indecent assault on a boy under the age of 14, five counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14, five counts of assaulting a boy under 13 by touching, and five counts of assaulting a girl under 13 through touching.
His guilty plea was accepted by the court, leading to a sentencing that reflects the severity of his crimes.
On Friday, July 24, at Warwick Crown Court, the judge sentenced Crews to 20 years in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions following his release.
