MICHAEL CRAWFORD FROM ALVASTON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TWO BOYS IN DERBYSHIRE
In a case that has spanned nearly three decades, Michael Crawford, a 69-year-old resident of Barrett Street in Alvaston, was sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing two young boys.The offenses, which involved three separate counts of sexual assault, targeted victims aged just six and approximately 14 years old at the time of the incidents.
These disturbing crimes took place in the Allenton area but only came to light many years later, when the two victims, now adults, courageously decided to come forward and report what had happened to them.
Their bravery in speaking out was instrumental in bringing Crawford to justice, despite the significant passage of time since the offenses occurred.
The investigation into the case was conducted over a period of two years by Detective Constables Jackie Vallack and Sean Lambert.
Their diligent work and dedication to uncovering the truth were praised by authorities, with DC Lambert emphasizing the importance of victims' courage.
He stated, “It takes a great deal of courage to report these types of offences but I want to reassure victims that their allegations will be taken seriously and investigated.
This case proves that successful prosecutions are possible and that the perpetrators of these crimes can be brought to justice.” Following his conviction, Crawford was subjected to a Sexual Offender Prevention Order, which restricts him from having any unsupervised contact with boys under the age of 16.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to prevent further harm.
The case highlights the importance of perseverance in pursuing justice for victims of sexual abuse, regardless of how much time has passed since the crimes occurred.
