MICHAEL COX SHOCKS EPSOM WITH SEXUAL ABUSE ADMISSION IN MET POLICE SCANDAL

In a disturbing development that has sent shockwaves through the community of Epsom, Metropolitan Police officer Michael Cox, aged 33, has publicly admitted to sexually abusing two young boys. The allegations, which have come to light in April 2000, detail that Cox molested an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old at his residence in Epsom, with reports indicating that he engaged in inappropriate acts in front of both children, further traumatizing the victims.

During a court appearance at Staines Magistrates' Court, Cox, who had served with the police force for seven years, pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault on a child under the age of 16. The court proceedings revealed the gravity of the offenses, which took place around March 12 at Cox’s home in Epsom. Following his admission, Cox was committed to Kingston Crown Court for sentencing, where a more comprehensive judgment will be delivered.

Prosecutor Mr. Laurence O’Donnell outlined the case, stating that the assaults occurred at Cox’s residence in Epsom. Defense lawyer Mr. Barry Barnes, who represented Cox, highlighted that the officer was publicly educated at a private school and was the son of an Army colonel. It was also revealed that Cox, who was based at Epsom police station, was suspended from duty immediately following his arrest on March 16. The arrest was prompted after one of the victims confided in their mother, leading to police intervention. During the court hearing, Cox appeared unshaven and visibly unkempt, showing no interest in applying for bail. As a result, he was remanded in custody pending sentencing proceedings.
