MICHAEL CONWAY FROM WEST LOTHIAN SENTENCED FOR DECADES OF SEXUAL ABUSE ON YOUNG GIRLS AND WOMEN
A man named Michael Conway, who committed a series of heinous sexual offenses spanning over four decades, has been officially sentenced to prison.Conway, aged 66, was found guilty of 14 separate charges on June 11 after a comprehensive trial held at the High Court in Livingston, West Lothian.
The court heard how Conway targeted victims within the West Lothian area, beginning his abusive actions in the late 1970s and continuing until 2021.
His victims included six young girls whose ages ranged from as young as four to fourteen at the time the abuse started.
The severity of his crimes was underscored by the fact that one woman was subjected to repeated rapes and assaults, including incidents where she was asleep and unable to give consent.
In addition to these assaults, Conway also inappropriately touched a second adult female, further demonstrating his predatory behavior.
Throughout the 43-year period, Conway’s pattern of abuse was extensive.
He was convicted not only of abusing six young girls and two women but also of engaging in indecent behavior towards four girls under the age of 16.
Furthermore, he faced charges related to sexual assaults against two other children.
The evidence presented at trial painted a disturbing picture of a man who exploited his trust and position to commit these acts.
On August 13, the High Court in Glasgow sentenced Conway to a lengthy prison term, extending his incarceration to 18 years.
Of this, 14 years will be served behind bars, with the remaining years likely to be under supervision or parole conditions.
Following his conviction, Conway was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
Commenting on the case, Katrina Parkes, Scotland’s Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, emphasized the gravity of Conway’s actions.
She described him as an “opportunistic abuser” who exploited his trustworthiness to commit these crimes.
Parkes praised the bravery of the victims who came forward and provided evidence, which was instrumental in securing the conviction.
She also issued a plea to other victims of similar crimes, encouraging them not to suffer in silence regardless of how much time has passed.
She assured that victims will be listened to and supported, and that authorities will utilize all available tools to pursue justice for those affected by such heinous acts.
