SERIAL DUMFRIES RAPIST SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS FOR BRUTAL CAMPAIGN OF ABUSE
Serial sex offender Michael Cain, aged 45 and formerly of Armour Drive in Dumfries, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for a lengthy campaign of sexual abuse and brutality against women.Over more than two decades, Cain committed numerous offenses, including rapes, assaults, threats, and physical abuse.
His attacks were described as 'very brutal' by the judge, Lord Burns, who stated that Cain subjected victims to a 'catalogue of sexual and physical abuse which was shocking in its nature.' The court heard that Cain first began offending in 1995, targeting a woman with verbal abuse and demanding money.
Between 2001 and 2002, he assaulted other women at different locations in Dumfries, subjecting one victim to rape and physical violence, including grabbing her by the hair, throttling her, and pushing her onto furniture.
Cain also attacked women between 2005 and 2017, with incidents including forcing a woman onto her back, threatening her with violence, and in one case, pushing a pregnant woman down stairs.
He also attacked and threatened women outside of sexual assaults, including smearing face spitting, head-butting, and pushing them against walls or vehicles.
Cain faced 14 charges, including rape, assault, breach of peace, and threatening behavior, and was convicted after denying the allegations.
Lord Burns ordered Cain to undergo monitoring and supervision for four more years, and he will remain on the sex offenders' register indefinitely.
The judge emphasized Cain's lack of remorse and the serious risk he poses to women.
