MICHAEL BROWN'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN DORSET AND ROMFORD LEAD TO JAIL SENTENCE

In December 2005, Michael Brown, a television private investigator, was sentenced to a minimum of two years in prison following his admission to serious child sex offences. The case drew significant media attention due to Brown's previous criminal record and his role on the now-cancelled TV show, Family Forensics, which aired on Living TV.

Brown, aged 51 at the time, appeared at Bournemouth Crown Court visibly emotional as he faced the consequences of his actions. The court was informed that Brown had turned himself in to the police in Poole on August 4, after the mother of two young girls, aged six and nine at the time, discovered that he had engaged in sexual acts in front of her children. These disturbing incidents had taken place earlier that year, between January 1 and July 31, and involved Brown engaging in sexual activity in the presence of children under the age of 13.

Prosecutor Robert Gray detailed that Brown had admitted to six counts of such sexual misconduct during police interviews. During these interviews, Brown expressed deep remorse, stating, “You just feel so disgusted with yourself that you know you just want to crawl back to the rock you came out from under.” The revelation of his actions shocked the court and the public alike.

It was also revealed that Brown had a prior conviction from 1989 for having sex with a 14-year-old girl. Additionally, he had been previously convicted of possessing a knuckle-duster, indicating a history of criminal behavior.

Brown’s defense lawyer, Antonia Jameson, argued that her client was genuinely remorseful and had been seeking counseling to address his issues. She emphasized that Brown had expressed a desire to seek help and turn his life around.

However, Judge Roger Jarvis was unequivocal in his sentencing. He condemned Brown’s actions, stating, “Every right-minded person will be disgusted by what it is that you have admitted to doing. These young children have had their childhood tarnished and their innocence damaged by your activities.” The judge ordered Brown to serve an indeterminate prison sentence, with a minimum of two years before he could be considered for release.

Furthermore, Brown was placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely and was subject to a sex offenders’ prevention order. This order prohibited him from working with individuals under 16, seeking their company without a parent or guardian present, and having any contact with his victims.

Brown’s criminal activities and conviction had a direct impact on his professional life as well. The TV show Family Forensics, which also featured Jayne Middlemiss, was abruptly cancelled after the network discovered Brown’s latest conviction on October 17. A statement from Living TV clarified that Brown had failed to disclose his charges and convictions as required by his contract, leading to the show's termination.

Brown’s criminal history and recent offences have cast a long shadow over his reputation, highlighting the serious consequences of his actions in Dorset and Romford, and raising ongoing concerns about safeguarding and accountability in the entertainment industry.
