FORMER POLICE OFFICER GUILTY OF GROSS MISCONDUCT
Ex-Police Constable James McClements received a sentence of eight months in prison, suspended for a year, at Bristol Crown Court after pleading guilty to misconduct in a public office. The 35-year-old officer resigned from Dorset Police in April 2025.
The offense involved an inappropriate romantic involvement with a domestic abuse survivor he encountered during an investigation in November 2023.
During a misconduct hearing held on 19 May 2026, it was concluded that McClements had engaged in serious misconduct and would have faced dismissal had he not already resigned.
Deputy Chief Constable Rachel Farrell condemned his actions as completely unacceptable and stated he is unfit to continue serving with Dorset Police.
She explained that he shared his personal mobile number with a domestic abuse victim and engaged in a sexual relationship with her, additionally advising her not to report a breach of contact by her abuser, thereby increasing her vulnerability.
Farrell stressed that McClements's behavior was profoundly below the standards expected of police officers and emphasized that he does not represent the many officers and staff who work diligently to assist victims.
