YARMOUTH MAN MICHAEL BOZWARD SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING A CHILD
In a recent court proceeding held in February 2021, Michael Bozward, a 21-year-old resident of Regent Road in Yarmouth, was formally sentenced for his involvement in a sexual incident with a minor.Bozward was required to register as a sex offender for a period of five years and was also subjected to a three-year supervision order as part of his sentencing.
During the trial held last month, Bozward was acquitted of the more serious charge of raping the young girl.
However, he had previously admitted to a lesser charge, asserting that the sexual activity was consensual.
He explained that the encounter was preceded by a game of hide and seek played in a cemetery with a group of youths on May 7.
Despite his claims, the court found sufficient grounds to impose the aforementioned penalties.
Judge Daniel Worsley, presiding over the case, expressed his understanding of the emotional impact such an incident could have on the victim.
He described the experience as likely being “devastating” for the young girl involved.
In addition to the registration and supervision requirements, Bozward was ordered to complete a 200-hour sexual offenders' rehabilitation program, specifically the Thames Valley programme designed for individuals with similar offenses.
Overall, the court's decision reflects a serious stance on protecting minors and addressing sexual misconduct, emphasizing both punitive measures and rehabilitative efforts to prevent future offenses.
