NORFOLK RAPIST BILAL DARIOGLU: FAILED ASYLUM SEEKER GETS 5 YEARS IN PRISON
Jon Welch reports that immigration officials attempted to seize Bilal Darioglu, a failed asylum seeker, just days before he committed a rape in Norfolk.
The officials visited Darioglu's home in Yarmouth to remove him from the country, but he was not present there.
It has emerged that, despite his asylum claim being rejected and being ordered to be deported in 2005, Darioglu, a Turkish citizen who arrived in Britain in 2000, had exhausted all legal channels to stay in the country by early 2006, months before the offence.
On October 26 of the previous year, Darioglu raped a 19-year-old woman in Norfolk after picking her up in his car, removing some of her clothing, and raping her on the back seat.
The woman managed to escape after fearing for her life.
Darioglu pleaded guilty to the rape and was sentenced to five years in prison, with a lifetime placement on the sex offenders' register.
The judge expressed skepticism about his deportation after serving his sentence, indicating he may not be removed from the UK.
