2002: GIRL SEX CASE MAN JAILED
2002: Michael Barrett has received a four-and-a-half-year jail sentence for sexual crimes committed against young girls. He pleaded guilty to a single offence involving a 12-year-old girl from 27 years ago but denied ten other charges relating to another girl from the Leigh area.
Nonetheless, the 47-year-old, now living in Tamworth, Staffordshire, was convicted of ten counts of indecent assault after a trial.
The abuse started when the girl was six and persisted until she was 12.
She kept her situation secret until later when she shared her experiences with friends and her fiancé.
Barrett, who has two children, was taken into custody in June 2000.
Judge Gillian Ruaux mandated that he register as a sex offender for life.
She stated that Barrett had deliberately set up opportunities to abuse the girls and referenced reports suggesting he would be a continued danger to children after his release.
Addressing Barrett, the judge remarked that he displayed no remorse and could pose a threat in the future.
Court records also revealed that Barrett once undressed the girl completely, removed his own clothing, and after she fled, he caught her and committed an indecent act against her.
