COUNTRY MUSIC LEGEND MERVYN CONN JAILED FOR RAPE AND INDECENT ASSAULT
Famous country music figure Mervyn Conn has received a prison sentence of 15 years for charges of rape and indecent assault.The 82-year-old resident of Convent Way, Wimbledon, was convicted at Kingston Crown Court on Tuesday, October 18, of two counts of rape—one involving a girl under 16 and another involving an adult woman—and one count of indecent assault on a girl under 16.
He is required to serve a minimum of seven years in prison, after which he will be placed on the sex offenders register.
Conn, who gained prominence through collaborations with artists such as Dolly Parton, the Beatles, and Johnny Cash, committed the sexual offenses between 1972 and 1985 in the areas of Westminster and Wimbledon.
His arrest took place at Gatwick Airport in July 2015, following police allegations made in March 2014, and he was formally charged on February 2, 2016.
Following the charge, two additional women came forward with allegations against him.
The court acquitted him of one count of indecent assault on a woman over 16 and two counts of indecent assault on girls under 16.
Another charge related to indecent assault was not pursued.
