In August 2018, authorities successfully apprehended Alexander Dimitrov, a 33-year-old resident of Wimbledon, after he was caught attempting to engage in illegal activities with what he believed was a minor.

Dimitrov appeared before the court to face serious charges related to his online conduct, which included attempts to groom a child for sexual purposes.

According to court records, Dimitrov admitted to two significant offenses: first, attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming, and second, attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

The case revealed that Dimitrov had initiated contact with what he thought was the online profile of a 13-year-old girl.

From the outset of their digital interaction, he made it explicitly clear that he was interested in engaging in sexual activities with the girl.

However, the individual Dimitrov believed to be a young girl was actually an undercover operation conducted by the paedophile hunting team known as 'Cobra UK.' This team specializes in identifying and catching individuals attempting to exploit minors online.

The team’s efforts led to Dimitrov’s arrest and subsequent court proceedings.

The court sentenced Dimitrov to a total of three years in prison for his actions.

Additionally, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order was imposed, which will remain in effect for a period of 15 years.

This order restricts his activities and contact to prevent any future harm.

Furthermore, Dimitrov was informed that he must sign the sex offenders register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions related to his conduct.

The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement and specialized teams to combat online grooming and protect vulnerable minors from exploitation.
