MAXWELL DJAN CAUGHT WITH 132 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN CWMBRAN

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Cwmbran, Maxwell Djan, a 30-year-old man, has been sentenced to a year in prison after police uncovered a significant collection of indecent images of children on his mobile device. The incident unfolded on April 10, 2017, when officers conducted a raid at Djan’s residence located in The Courtlands, Greenmeadow, Cwmbran, following intelligence that prompted a thorough search of his home and belongings.

During the investigation, authorities seized various electronic devices, including computers and mobile phones. While no illicit images were discovered on the computers, the mobile phone Djan was carrying at the time of his arrest contained a troubling cache of 132 indecent images of minors. These images included both photographs and videos, with a substantial portion classified as the most severe category A. Specifically, 87 of these images were videos, and 52 of them fell into the category A classification, indicating the most serious level of indecency.

In addition to the videos, there were 45 photographs, of which 24 were categorized as category A, 17 as category B, and four as category C. The categorization reflects the increasing severity of the content, with category A representing the most explicit and disturbing material. The police’s findings highlighted the gravity of the case and the disturbing nature of the material Djan possessed.

Prosecuting counsel Sarah Waters addressed Newport Crown Court, revealing that Djan had admitted to police that he had accessed an online chat room where other users would send him links to images. According to Djan, he would open these links, which would then display the indecent images. Despite his claims that he had never actively searched for such material and claimed to have no interest in it, Ms. Waters pointed out that Djan was aware of the downloads and had taken no steps to delete or dissociate himself from the group involved in sharing these images.

At an earlier hearing, Djan pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including three counts of possession of indecent still images, three counts of possession of indecent moving images, as well as charges of possessing extreme pornography and a prohibited image of a child. His guilty plea underscored the severity of his actions and the disturbing nature of the content involved.

Judge Jeremy Jenkins sentenced Djan to 12 months in prison for the most serious offences related to the category A images. The court also imposed shorter concurrent sentences for the other charges, reflecting the gravity of the case and the need for justice to be served for the victims depicted in the images.
