MATTHEW RIVETT SENTENCED FOR DECADES OF ABUSE IN PITSEA AND CANVEY

Matthew Rivett, a man from Pitsea, was found guilty of a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of four children over a span of nearly two decades, from 2002 to 2019. The disturbing revelations emerged after a lengthy investigation that uncovered the extent of his criminal activities across the towns of Pitsea and Canvey.

Rivett's criminal conduct was brought to public attention when some of the offences were reported to Essex Police in 2020. As the investigation deepened, additional allegations surfaced in the following year, revealing a pattern of abuse that had remained hidden for years. The police investigation uncovered that Rivett had not only assaulted children but had also filmed some of the abuse, adding a further layer of severity to his crimes.

Following a trial at Basildon Crown Court, Rivett, aged 44 and residing at Stokefelde, Pitsea, was convicted in November of last year on a total of 28 charges. These included multiple counts of rape and assault by penetration, crimes that have left a lasting impact on the victims and their families. The court's verdict underscored the gravity of his actions and the breach of trust involved.

On the day of sentencing, Rivett appeared before the court to face the consequences of his actions. The judge sentenced him to a total of 22 years in prison. It was also determined that Rivett will serve two-thirds of this sentence behind bars, with the remaining time potentially spent on parole or other conditions. The sentence reflects the serious nature of his offences and the need for justice for the victims affected by his predatory behavior.
