MATTQUINNEY FROM BROMLEY AND ORPINGTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Bromley and Orpington, Matthew Quinney, a teacher from Grove Park, has been formally sentenced after admitting to possessing illegal child pornography on his personal computer. The incident came to light in February of the previous year when police executed a search at his residence on Castleton Road, uncovering a significant amount of illicit material stored on his device. At the time of his arrest, Quinney was 31 years old and employed as an educator at the Federation of Tubbenden Schools located in Sandy Bury, Orpington. His employment was immediately suspended by Bromley Council following his detention, reflecting the gravity of the allegations against him. Subsequently, Quinney resigned from his teaching position, a move that was likely influenced by the ongoing investigation and the serious nature of the charges.
In court proceedings held at Woolwich Crown Court, Quinney pleaded guilty to 22 counts related to the possession of indecent images of children. The court's decision on March 13 resulted in a sentence of 12 months in prison, though this sentence was suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits another offense within that period. Additionally, the court imposed a supervision order to monitor his conduct and mandated his participation in a 14-month internet sex offenders’ rehabilitation program aimed at addressing his behavior and preventing future offenses.
Furthermore, Quinney has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of five years, a legal requirement that entails regular reporting and monitoring. He has also been disqualified from working with children indefinitely, a measure designed to protect vulnerable minors from potential harm. Following his guilty plea, a spokesperson for Bromley Council issued a statement condemning Quinney’s actions, emphasizing that his criminal conduct represented a severe breach of trust towards his pupils and colleagues, despite the fact that his offenses were not directly linked to his role at Tubbenden Schools. The case has left a lasting impact on the local communities, raising concerns about safeguarding and the importance of vigilance in educational environments.
