'MONSTER' WENT ON DATE WITH WOMAN THEN RAPED HER DAUGHTER IN HER OWN BED
A man accused of raping a teenager after a brief date with her mother has been identified as Matthew Philbin.Earlier that day, Philbin went bowling with the woman, and they later returned to her residence for drinks, during which he met her child in passing.
Later that evening, he claimed to be going to the restroom but instead sneaked into the teenager’s upstairs bedroom and assaulted her.
Liverpool Crown Court was informed that Philbin, residing in Dukinfield Farm, Warrington, had taken his victim’s mother out earlier in the year.
He later exploited her hospitality by returning to her home after drinking heavily and using cocaine.
During the evening, after a short encounter with his victim, who subsequently went to bed, Philbin continued his evening with her mother at their house.
Investigations revealed that he ascended the stairs multiple times, allegedly to snoop around the upper floors.
Once in a drug-affected state, he climbed into the girl’s bedroom, approaching her bed and crawling on top of her.
The girl described Philbin as resembling a monster during the assault, noting he grabbed her hair and tried to remove her clothes.
She fought back fiercely, kicking him in a bid to fend off the attack, but he persisted, climbing on top of her and threatening to shoot her if she made any noise.
He forced her out of bed and used her phone’s torch to see during the assault, which caused numerous injuries to her face and head.
Her mother, who had grown suspicious of Philbin’s unexplained absence and heard her daughter’s screams, rushed in and instructed her to pretend it was a nightmare, insisting it did not occur.
Recognizing her daughter’s distress, she managed to usher Philbin into the back garden where he was found locked in, wearing only shorts and socks, after damaging the door trying to regain entry.
The victim’s mother later expressed feelings of guilt for having allowed Philbin into the house, according to her statement.
Although he initially denied the assault during police interviews, Philbin later pleaded guilty.
His lawyer, Simeon Evans, acknowledged the attack was shocking and said that drugs and alcohol influenced his client’s actions, who now recognizes the severity of the crime.
