A man aged 34 from Redruth has received an 18-year prison sentence for multiple violent rapes.
Matthew James Gardner was convicted after a trial held in January at Truro Crown Court, where he faced 14 charges.
These included nine counts of rape, assault by penetration, and four additional charges.
During the sentencing on Thursday, 19 September, Gardner was ordered to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence and was also mandated to register as a sex offender for life.
Throughout the court proceedings, it was revealed that Gardner used intimidation and fear to control his victims.
He continued to assault the victim even when she was unwell and during other instances, he forcibly inserted a sock into her mouth and raped her.
The assaults were described as physically violent and degrading, causing significant pain to the victim.
Gardner claims that all sexual acts were consensual, despite the evidence presented during the trial.
