ALCOHOLIC BANNED FROM REDRUTH AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK ON PARTNER
A man with an alcohol problem has been banned from entering Redruth after subjecting his ex to a booze-fuelled beating.David Long had been in an on-off relationship with his ex-partner for years.
On January 19 last year, at her home near Camborne, an argument turned violent, and he assaulted her.
He punched her several times in the face and put his hands around her throat, resulting in injuries and emotional trauma.
Following the act of violence, he was arrested and pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm.
The court heard that this was Long's first appearance in court, and aside from his alcohol issue, he had been a responsible man.
His barrister stated that Long has accepted his alcohol problem and wants to bring it under control, with support from his family.
He has been on remand for 17 days and is under a curfew for 180 days.
The judge sentenced him to 21 months in prison suspended for two years, 300 hours of unpaid work, a restraining order not to contact his ex or visit certain addresses, and a ban on entering Redruth for 10 years.
The judge also emphasized that Long is an alcoholic who cannot return to alcohol, and warned him about the consequences of reoffending.
