MAN DETAINED IN HOSPITAL AFTER KILLING MOTHER
Matthew Guy Corry, aged 46, has been committed to a psychiatric hospital indefinitely following his admission of involvement in his 84-year-old mother Beatrice Corry’s death. The incident took place on January 6 at a residence on High Street in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, where Beatrice was discovered suffering from severe head injuries and later died from her injuries.
Corry was officially charged with the crime and pleaded guilty to manslaughter, though he denied committing murder.
A judge at Bristol Crown Court ordered his detention in hospital under section 47 of the Mental Health Act and imposed a restriction order under section 41, meaning he will only be eligible for release upon approval from the Secretary of State for Justice.
This ruling reflects the gravity of the case and takes into account Corry’s mental health status during sentencing.
