DERBY TIKTOK STAR SENTENCED FOR VIOLENT COERCIVE ABUSE
A resident of Derby named Mathew Brady has been found guilty and received a sentence following his assault and controlling behavior towards his victim.Brady, who is 28 years old and has gained popularity on social media platforms such as TikTok with over one million followers and 3,600 subscribers on YouTube, was convicted of physically restraining Crawford by grabbing her throat and behaving in a threatening and aggressive manner.
The court proceedings revealed that Brady had previously admitted to two counts of engaging in controlling and coercive behavior within a close relationship, along with one charge of causing actual bodily harm through assault.
During the sentencing hearing at Derby Crown Court, Judge Shaun Smith QC stated that Brady’s conduct caused considerable alarm and distress.
Despite the violent and manipulative nature of his actions, he was given an 18-month jail term suspended for the duration, along with a three-year restraining order that prohibits him from contacting Crawford within a 100-yard radius.
Additionally, Brady received 200 hours of community service and was ordered to attend counselling and anger management programs.
The judge cautioned that failure to adhere to these conditions would lead to imprisonment.
Prosecutors pointed out Brady’s manipulative tactics and the profound effect his behavior had on Crawford’s mental well-being.
Crawford testified that she feels too fearful to leave her home and finds it difficult to move past her experience, describing her ongoing fear of social interactions and diminished trust in others.
The case highlights the serious issues surrounding coercive control and violent abuse, with the court acknowledging the harm inflicted by Brady’s actions.
