EBBW VALE MAN MARTYN WILLIAMS SENTENCED FOR EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY IN NEWPORT

In July, police officers responded to concerns raised by a former partner of Martyn Williams, a resident of Ebbw Vale, which led to his arrest at his home. The partner had contacted authorities after discovering that Williams had left computer equipment at her residence following their separation two months earlier. During the investigation, law enforcement officials uncovered a disturbing collection of illegal images stored across multiple devices.

Specifically, police found a total of 1,356 images of extreme pornography involving bestiality. These were distributed across three different storage mediums: 894 images on a computer, 50 on Williams' mobile phone, and an additional 412 on a separate computer hard drive. The sheer volume and nature of these images prompted immediate legal action against Williams.

Martyn Williams, aged 36 and residing in Newtown, Ebbw Vale, faced charges related to the possession of extreme pornography. He pleaded guilty to these charges during an earlier court hearing. During police interviews, Williams admitted to having a problematic pattern of viewing such material but claimed he was unaware that possessing these images was a criminal offense. His candidness was noted by the authorities and his legal counsel.

Defense lawyer Jeff Jones described Williams as being 'brutally frank about his shortcomings' and highlighted the emotional toll his arrest had taken on him. Williams reportedly experienced a mixture of embarrassment, regret, and fear following his apprehension. A pre-sentence probation report further indicated that his actions were driven by an addiction to this type of material, emphasizing the need for treatment.

While Williams was cleared of two additional charges concerning indecent images of children—charges he claimed resulted from accidental downloads—police investigations confirmed that his explanation was credible. The court found no evidence to support the possession of such illegal images.

At the sentencing hearing held at Newport Crown Court, Judge Recorder Richard Booth emphasized the importance of addressing Williams' underlying issues. He ordered that Williams participate in a two-year community order, which includes a mandatory treatment program aimed at tackling his 'addiction.' Additionally, Williams is required to complete 240 hours of unpaid community service, pay costs amounting to £145, and a victim surcharge of £85. The judge underscored that the treatment program is essential for Williams to manage his compulsive behavior and prevent future offenses.
