MARTYN NEWITT FROM LISKEARD ADMITS TO MISCONDUCT INVOLVING POLICE FORCE IN BRISTOL
A former officer of the Devon and Cornwall Police has publicly acknowledged engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a member of the public during his tenure with the force.Martyn Newitt, aged 39 and a resident of Liskeard, appeared before Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday, April 1, where he entered a guilty plea to a misconduct charge.
Dressed in a black suit paired with a blue tie, Newitt was seen accompanied by friends or family members, and he spoke directly to the court to admit his guilt.
Details of the specific misconduct charge were not disclosed during the hearing, and the court indicated that Newitt’s sentencing would be scheduled at a later date.
Prior to this appearance, Newitt had already pleaded guilty at Bristol Magistrates’ Court to a separate charge of computer misuse.
The magistrates had heard that between June 25, 2020, and April 13, 2021, in Cornwall, he caused a computer to perform functions that facilitated unauthorized access to a program or data, an act considered a breach of computer security laws.
The court further heard that the misconduct involving the police officer took place over a period from May 26, 2020, to December 27, 2021.
As part of the legal process, Newitt has been granted bail by District Judge Michael Cullum, with his next court appearance scheduled for April 25.
The case continues to unfold as authorities pursue further legal proceedings related to his actions during his service in the police force.
