MARTYN JONES FROM WORDSLEY ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES IN WOLVERHAMPTON
In a recent case heard at Wolverhampton Crown Court, Martyn Jones, a 35-year-old resident of Brooklands, Wordsley, was found in possession of highly disturbing and explicit child pornography materials. Despite the severity of the charges, Jones was spared from imprisonment and instead received a structured supervision order aimed at addressing his underlying issues.Judge Nicholas Webb emphasized that society's safety would be better served through rehabilitative measures rather than incarceration. He stated that placing Jones on a sex offenders programme would be more effective in managing his behavior and preventing future offenses. The court's decision reflected a careful consideration of the evidence and the nature of the crimes committed.
Jones, who is divorced, admitted to 22 counts of creating indecent images of children, along with two separate charges related to sexual assaults on young girls that occurred approximately 18 years ago. The court was told that these assaults took place when Jones was still a teenager, adding a layer of complexity to his case.
As part of his sentencing, Jones was ordered to be under supervision for three years and is required to register as a sex offender for a period of five years. Additionally, he is permanently prohibited from working with children and is barred from having contact with anyone under the age of 18 unless approved by his supervising officer. The court also imposed a restriction preventing him from accessing computers, aiming to limit his ability to view or distribute similar material in the future.
During the proceedings, Judge Webb highlighted the disturbing nature of the images found on Jones's computer. The photographs depicted girls as young as three years old being raped, a detail that underscored the gravity of the case. The judge remarked that Jones narrowly avoided a custodial sentence, indicating the seriousness with which the court viewed the offenses.
Prosecutor Mr. Andrew Johnson explained that the victims had eventually reported the incidents to police, leading to the investigation. Officers discovered on Jones’s computer a total of 22 still images and ten video clips showing children under the age of seven engaged in sexual acts with adults. Jones claimed to police that he had come across these images while browsing the internet for adult pornography. However, the court was informed that no adult material was found on his computer’s hard drive, casting doubt on his explanation.
Defense lawyer Miss Heide Kubic acknowledged that Jones accepted that the most troubling material involved moving images, but she argued that the number of images was relatively small compared to other cases. She emphasized that Jones had shown some level of remorse and that the material involved was not as extensive as in more severe cases, which influenced the court’s decision to opt for supervision rather than imprisonment.
