WORDSLEY MAN MARTIN GRIFFIN SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN SHOCKING CASE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Wordsley, Martin Griffin, a 50-year-old resident, has been found guilty of possessing a significant collection of indecent images depicting young children. The authorities uncovered a total of 1,346 illicit photographs on Griffin's computer, including some at the most severe levels of explicitness, which involved children as young as four and five years old.The investigation began when police received information suggesting that Griffin's computer had been used to access and download these disturbing images. During initial questioning, Griffin claimed that both his wife and daughter had access to his computer, and they were subsequently arrested as part of the investigation. However, Griffin eventually admitted to downloading the illegal material himself.
Prosecutor Rhiannon Jones outlined the details of the case during a hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Wednesday, May 12. She explained that the police had traced the source of some of the images to a website in Croatia, which had been hijacked for a brief six-minute window, during which the illicit content was accessed and downloaded. This revelation added a layer of complexity to the case, highlighting the international aspect of the crime.
The police raid took place at Griffin’s residence on Marine Crescent in Wordsley, where they seized his computer for analysis. The forensic examination revealed that the device contained a disturbing collection of images, with 108 classified at level three, 141 at level four, and 10 at the highest level, level five, indicating the most serious and explicit material involving children.
Further investigation showed clear evidence that Griffin’s computer had been actively used to search for and download child pornography, with images involving children as young as four and five years old. Griffin was charged with six counts of possessing indecent photographs of children. In addition to his immediate sentence, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of five years. The court also imposed an indefinite Sex Offenders Prevention Order, emphasizing the seriousness of his offenses.
Judge Martin Walsh addressed Griffin directly during the sentencing, expressing disappointment that Griffin’s wife and daughter had also been arrested in connection with the case. The judge made it clear that such actions were not to Griffin’s credit and underscored the gravity of the crimes committed.
Defending Griffin, solicitor Samantha Powis described him as a man of previously good character who was now filled with shame and remorse. She explained that Griffin was going through personal difficulties at the time of the offenses, which she suggested may have contributed to his actions. Powis emphasized that the offenses had severely damaged Griffin’s reputation and self-respect, and she urged the court to consider his remorse and the circumstances surrounding his conduct.
