MARTYN FOSTER FROM LISKEARD AND SALTASH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN TRURO
In March 2022, the criminal justice system took a firm stance against Martyn Foster, a man with ties to both Liskeard and Saltash, who was convicted of heinous sexual offenses involving two young girls. Despite his conviction and subsequent imprisonment, Foster continues to deny any wrongdoing, refusing to admit to the acts for which he was found guilty.Foster, aged 41, appeared before Truro Crown Court to face sentencing after a trial that established his guilt in two separate incidents of sexual assault against a girl under the age of 13. The court proceedings revealed the profound and lasting impact his actions have had on the victims and their families. During the hearing, the court listened to emotional testimonies from the mothers of the victims. One mother described how her daughter has been suffering from bedwetting since the assault, a condition that has persisted and required medical intervention. Another victim’s mother shared that her daughter has become withdrawn, no longer interested in activities such as dance and swimming lessons, and now prefers to shower while still wearing her underwear, indicating ongoing trauma.
Allegations also surfaced that Foster threatened the families of his victims, creating an environment of fear and intimidation that extended beyond the immediate victims. Such threats added a disturbing layer to the case, emphasizing the severity of Foster’s misconduct and the impact on the community.
Judge Simon Carr, presiding over the case, acknowledged the bravery of one of the victims who had the courage to speak out immediately after the assault—an act that is often rare in cases of this nature. The judge emphasized that the emotional scars inflicted by Foster could take a lifetime to heal, underscoring the gravity of his crimes. Despite the conviction, Foster maintained his denial of the allegations, refusing to accept responsibility for his actions.
As a result of his crimes, Foster was sentenced to six years in prison. Additionally, he was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order, which imposes restrictions aimed at protecting the public from future offenses. He is also required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and safeguarding measures. The case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by victims of sexual abuse and the importance of a robust judicial response to such serious offenses.
