BRISTOL MAN MARTYN FORD SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF STEPFATHER IAN BAKER

Martyn Ford, a 38-year-old man with no fixed address, faced the court to answer for a heinous crime that shocked the Bristol community. The incident occurred in his own residence within Bristol on the 4th of June, where Ford committed a violent act that resulted in the death of his stepfather, 58-year-old Ian Baker. Ford did not deny his involvement; instead, he appeared at Bristol Crown Court and admitted to the murder, which was characterized by extreme brutality.

The victim, Ian Baker, was found lifeless on Hungerford Road, a location within Bristol, with injuries that were both severe and disturbing. Post-mortem examinations revealed that Baker had sustained significant head injuries, which forensic experts attributed to being inflicted by a hammer. The nature of the injuries underscored the savage manner in which the crime was carried out, leaving the court and community in shock.

In light of the evidence and Ford’s own admission, the judge handed down a life sentence, stipulating that Ford must serve a minimum of 20 years and 4 months behind bars before being eligible for parole. The judge’s decision highlighted the brutality of the murder, emphasizing the violent and unnecessary nature of the attack.

Avon and Somerset Police Det Sgt Neil Meade commented on the case, describing it as a “brutal murder in which an innocent man lost his life after being violently bludgeoned with a hammer.” He also noted the efforts of specially trained officers who supported Ian Baker’s family throughout this difficult period. Det Sgt Meade expressed hope that the family could find some measure of solace in the judge’s sentence, acknowledging that while nothing can bring Mr. Baker back, the lengthy imprisonment of Ford offers some form of justice and closure. The community of Bristol can now only hope for healing in the aftermath of this tragic event.
