MOTHER SENTENCED FOR FATAL STRANGULATION OF FIVE-YEAR-OLD ALIYAH THOMAS IN EALING
In a tragic case that has shocked the community of Ealing, west London, Martina Madarova was sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of her five-year-old daughter, Aliyah Thomas. The devastating incident occurred on the morning of September 14, 2022, when Aliyah was found unresponsive at her family home on Leyborne Avenue.
According to court reports, Aliyah was discovered lying on the sofa, covered with a blanket, with her mother, Madarova, present at the scene.
The young girl’s death was confirmed shortly after emergency services arrived.
Madarova, who had called her partner, Mr.
Thomas, to inform him of Aliyah’s death, admitted to feeling that she had “failed” her daughter during the tragic event.
During the proceedings at the Old Bailey, Madarova pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
She denied the charge of murder, but medical reports supported her plea, leading the prosecution to accept her plea.
The judge, Richard Marks QC, emphasized that the act represented a serious breach of trust, especially considering the vulnerability of the victim.
Judge Marks highlighted that Madarova’s alcohol consumption and her failure to seek medical assistance were aggravating factors in the case.
Despite the severity of the crime, the judge acknowledged that Madarova had previously been considered an “exemplary mother,” and he noted that she would have to live with the consequences of her actions for the rest of her life.
On the day of the incident, Madarova had contacted Mr.
Thomas and informed him that Aliyah was no longer alive.
When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found Aliyah lying on the sofa, with her mother expressing remorse and stating her feelings of failure.
Madarova also disclosed to medics that she had consumed two bottles of wine prior to the tragic event, which was considered an aggravating factor in her mental state at the time.
The court’s decision reflects the gravity of the case and the tragic loss of a young life, with Madarova now serving a five-year sentence for her role in Aliyah’s death.
