MET POLICE SERGEANT DISMISSED OVER SEXUAL HARASSMENT CLAIMS
A Metropolitan Police officer has been dismissed immediately following sexual harassment allegations made against him.Detective Sergeant Gethin Jones was accused by six colleagues, most of whom were of junior rank, of engaging in sexual harassment and making inappropriate sexual and misogynistic communications.
The allegations pertain to incidents over a three-year period starting in July 2019, which occurred both during and outside of working hours.
The misconduct involved phone messages and face-to-face comments.
The misconduct hearing concluded that DS Jones breached professional standards at a level of gross misconduct, resulting in his instant dismissal.
As a consequence, he will also be barred from future police employment.
Chief Superintendent Jill Horsfall, overseeing policing in west London, described Jones' behavior as 'completely unacceptable,' emphasizing that his actions made colleagues uncomfortable and highlighting the importance of a safe and trustworthy work environment.
She commended the colleagues for reporting the misconduct and urged others to do the same, reinforcing that such behavior disqualifies someone from serving in the police force.
