DERBY MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER BRUTAL GIRLFRIEND MURDER
Martin Shaw, aged 34 and residing on Mayfield Road in Chaddesden, was given a life sentence after being convicted of murdering his girlfriend, Danielle Thompson.
Shaw confessed to the killing after an argument in August, during which he stabbed her around 20 times.
Danielle was transported to Royal Derby Hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Shaw fled the scene shortly after the attack but was quickly apprehended by authorities.
Detective Inspector Dave Cox described the assault as particularly brutal, noting that Shaw left Danielle lying on the ground, seemingly for dead.
The judge ordered Shaw to serve a minimum term of 22 years, emphasizing the grave nature of his actions and his responsibility for the death.
The court also expressed hope that the lengthy imprisonment would provide some solace to Ms Thompson’s family.
