JERSEY RAPIST MARTIN RICHARDSON JUDGED FOR ABUSING YOUNG GIRLS
In December 2017, a man from Jersey was handed down a significant prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offenses.The individual, identified as Martin Jegou, formerly known as Martin Richardson, was sentenced to 13 years behind bars for his involvement in the sexual abuse of two young girls.
Jegou, aged 51 at the time, was found guilty of committing a total of 11 criminal acts, which included charges of rape, indecent assault, and procuring acts of gross indecency.
These heinous acts took place over a span of several years, specifically between 1996 and 2003, during which the victims were subjected to a profound violation of their innocence and trust.
The court's verdict underscores the severity of the crimes committed by Jegou, who was also ordered to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of 10 years.
This measure aims to monitor and restrict his activities following his release from prison, reflecting the ongoing concern for public safety and the protection of vulnerable individuals.
The States of Jersey Police issued a statement condemning Jegou’s actions, emphasizing the betrayal of trust involved.
They stated, “the victims should have felt safe in his company, but were in fact sexually abused by him and deprived of their innocence at an early age, involving an appalling breach of trust.” The police’s comments highlight the profound impact of the crimes on the victims and the gravity with which the justice system viewed the case.
