MARTIN HUNT'S HORRIFIC CRIME IN FRINTON AND KIRBY CROSS: 12-YEAR SENTENCE FOR ABUSE AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the communities of Frinton and Kirby Cross, Martin Hunt, aged 24, was convicted of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of a young girl and the production and distribution of indecent images. The case came to light after the owners of Hunt’s former residence on Southcroft Road in Kirby Cross discovered a disc containing deeply disturbing material hidden behind kitchen units during redecorating efforts. This discovery prompted them to alert the police, setting in motion a detailed investigation that would eventually lead to Hunt’s arrest and conviction.Authorities traced Hunt’s whereabouts after they uncovered a series of indecent images at a residence in Frinton, Kent, which was linked to a known paedophile. The investigation revealed a trail of emails connecting Hunt to the abuse, providing crucial evidence that led to his identification. The police’s efforts culminated in Hunt’s arrest in December 2013, when officers detained a man in Kent on suspicion of sexually abusing two young girls. During the search, law enforcement officials found an email from Hunt in which he explicitly admitted to sexually abusing a girl and included photographs related to the abuse.
Prosecutor Diane Pigot detailed the evidence, stating, “Among his possessions were a T-shirt and gold chains he was wearing in the images. There was clearly evidence of sharing of indecent images.” The investigation uncovered that Hunt had been involved in the production and dissemination of child pornography, as well as direct sexual assault charges.
Judge Patricia Lynch QC presided over Hunt’s trial at Chelmsford Crown Court. In her sentencing remarks, she described Hunt’s actions as “appalling and horrendous,” emphasizing the severity of the crimes committed. Hunt was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison, with an extended license period of eight years. This extended license means that Hunt could be recalled to prison if he commits any further offenses within 20 years of his release. It is expected that Hunt will serve a minimum of nine years before being considered for parole.
Judge Lynch also praised the efforts of Detective Sergeant Katie Mead and the entire investigative team for their diligent work in tracking down Hunt and bringing him to justice. The case highlights the ongoing threat posed by individuals involved in child exploitation and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts to protect vulnerable victims from further harm.
