KEVIN SAITTA FROM KIRBY CROSS SENTENCED TO OVER 20 YEARS FOR ABUSE IN CHELMSFORD
In a case that has shocked the local community of Kirby Cross and the wider Essex area, Kevin Saitta, aged 55, has been sentenced to more than two decades behind bars following a disturbing campaign of sexual abuse against a vulnerable child. The heinous acts, which spanned over a period of time, involved the use of digital devices by Saitta to meticulously plan, record, and document his crimes.During proceedings at Chelmsford Crown Court, Judge Christopher Morgan handed down a sentence of 21 years in prison, accompanied by an extended license period of eight years. This means that Saitta, who previously resided in Laburnum Crescent, Kirby Cross, will be required to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole consideration. The severity of his crimes and the systematic nature of his abuse were emphasized during the sentencing.
Judge Morgan addressed Saitta directly, stating, “You have caused her devastating harm. Her innocence has been taken away from her. You knew what you were doing throughout. This was a case of systematic, serious sexual abuse.” The judge’s words underscored the gravity of the offenses committed and the lasting impact on the victim.
Hendrika Tatam, a representative from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), described the case as one of the most depraved she has encountered in her career. She revealed that Saitta went to extraordinary lengths to document his crimes, with authorities recovering over 1,177 images and videos depicting the abuse. The volume and nature of the material highlighted the extent of Saitta’s depravity, making it one of the most severe cases she has prosecuted within the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences Unit.
Ms. Tatam further explained that Saitta’s actions subjected his young victim to repeated sexual assaults, including oral rape. The CPS, working closely with Essex Police, built a robust case against him, charging him with a total of 19 counts, among which was the rape of a child under the age of 13. Saitta, facing overwhelming evidence, pleaded guilty to all charges, which led to the substantial sentence handed down.
In her statement, Ms. Tatam expressed hope that the 29-year total sentence would serve as a measure of justice for the victim and serve as a stark warning to others about the consequences of such heinous crimes. The case has left a lasting scar on the community of Kirby Cross and underscores the importance of vigilant law enforcement and judicial processes in tackling child abuse and sexual offenses.
