DARLINGTON WOMAN FIGHTS OFF DRUG-FUELLED SEX ATTACKER
A young woman bravely fought off a drug-fuelled sex attacker who targeted and followed her through a secluded area of a park after dark. The slightly-built teenage woman resisted the efforts of Malcolm Clixby to take her to the ground, after grabbing her from behind, in South Park, Darlington, at about 4.50pm on Saturday November 2, last year.
As Clixby tried to place one hand beneath her clothing and grab her crotch area, his intended victim bit his other hand, which was covering her mouth.
Emma Dowling, prosecuting, said following a forceful second bite, Clixby released his grip sufficiently to enable the tenacious teenager to run off, and seek help at a nearby petrol filling station.
Miss Dowling said the defendant walked into Darlington Police Station several hours later, at about 8pm, and made comments to an officer on the front desk and in the custody suite that he had tried to grope and rape a girl in the park.
Traces of his DNA was also recovered from the victim.
Despite the apparent confession, the 43-year-old defendant, of Greenbank Road, Darlington, denied attempted rape, but he was convicted at trial at the court, in July.
