COALVILLE SEX OFFENDER MARTIN BORDOLI JAILED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES

In January 2013, a serious case involving a convicted sex offender from Coalville came to light, highlighting ongoing concerns about online child exploitation. Martin Bordoli, aged 50, was sentenced to six months in prison after admitting to eight counts of accessing indecent images of children, which included a total of 14 different pictures.

At the time of his arrest, Bordoli was already on the sex offender register, a status he had maintained following a previous conviction for indecent assault in 2008. His prior conviction stemmed from a disturbing incident involving a girl under the age of 13, where he placed a four-year-old girl on his lap before exposing himself. The girl confided in her mother, prompting police intervention and subsequent legal action.

As part of his management plan, Bordoli was subject to regular monitoring by a public protection team, which included spot checks on his computer usage. On June 29, 2010, authorities visited his residence but found him reluctant to produce his laptop. Although no images were discovered during that visit, officers did find an indecent story involving an adult and a child, which, however, did not lead to any charges.

Further investigations led to another unannounced visit on January 13, 2011. During this visit, officers uncovered evidence that Bordoli had accessed and stored 14 images depicting girls aged between 10 and 17. These images were categorized into different levels of severity: five at level one, three at level two, four at level three, and two at level four. Notably, there were no images classified in the highest category, level five.

When questioned after his arrest, Bordoli, who resides on Market Place in Whitwick, Coalville, expressed remorse, stating, “I need help and want to sort myself out.” His defense solicitor, Sarah Wood, argued that the images were likely to be discovered due to the regular monitoring visits and suggested that Bordoli’s actions were “almost a cry for help.” She described him as a nervous, isolated individual who had become more withdrawn following redundancy from a warehouse job he had held for 31 years. She emphasized his remorse and the fact that the two images at level four depicted girls over 16.

During sentencing, Judge Hammond addressed the seriousness of the case, emphasizing the grave harm caused to children worldwide by such images. He stated, “The reason these images are serious is because somewhere in the world, children have been grossly sexually abused.”

As a consequence, Bordoli was handed a lifelong ban from working with children and was ordered to register as a sex offender for six years. Additionally, he was placed under a 12-month sex offences prevention order, underscoring the ongoing risk and the importance of community safety in Coalville and beyond.
