GARY LEES BRUTAL ASSAULT IN COALVILLE: LONG HISTORY OF VIOLENCE LEADS TO THREE-YEAR SENTENCE
In a case that has once again highlighted the dangers posed by a repeat offender, Gary Lees, a man with a notorious history of violence, has been sentenced to a significant prison term following a savage assault on his current partner. Lees, whose address is listed as Garfield Road, Hugglescote, near Coalville, was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm through a sustained and vicious attack that left his victim with serious injuries. The incident unfolded after the woman, who had been in an on-and-off relationship with Lees, confronted him over suspicions that he was involved with another person behind her back. This confrontation quickly escalated into violence. Court reports detail that Lees followed her into the bathroom, where his behavior grew increasingly threatening. Without warning, he began punching and kicking her, resulting in severe injuries that included fractures to her arm and leg, as well as a knocked-out tooth. The assault lasted several minutes, during which neighbors heard her cries for help, prompting them to call the police.
When law enforcement arrived, Lees was found to have pleaded guilty to related charges, including criminal damage and resisting arrest. His criminal record is extensive, with his violent tendencies dating back to 2009. In fact, he has accumulated a total of 48 convictions, most of which are related to violent offenses. Notably, Lees had previously served time in prison in 2016 for violence against another woman, underscoring a troubling pattern of aggressive behavior.
During the sentencing hearing, the judge emphasized the seriousness of Lees’ violent conduct, referencing his prior appearances in court for similar offenses. The court was informed that his relationship with the victim was unstable, characterized as 'on-off,' and that he had recently reconciled with her shortly before the attack. Lees admitted to losing his temper after being accused of infidelity, which he accepted as an explanation for his actions during the incident.
As a result of his actions, Lees was sentenced to three years in prison. Additionally, he received an extra month for criminal damage and resisting police officers. The victim, who continues to suffer physically and emotionally, revealed that she still relies on painkillers and ongoing medical treatment. The court’s decision took into account Lees’ extensive violent history, his mental state at the time of the attack, and the severity of the injuries inflicted, all of which contributed to the length and severity of his sentence.
