MARK RUSSELL FROM HARTCLIFFE SENTENCED IN BRISTOL FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILDREN
In a case that has shocked the local community of Hartcliffe and the wider Bristol area, Mark Russell, a 36-year-old resident of Hartgill Close, was sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing two young girls. The incident, which took place in Bristol, involved Russell gaining access to the victims when they were alone and engaging in inappropriate physical contact above and below their clothing, as detailed during the proceedings at Bristol Crown Court.Despite maintaining his innocence and denying all charges, Russell was convicted following a rigorous two-week trial held last month. The court heard that the abuse was particularly egregious due to the victims' ages, with some as young as six years old when the misconduct began. Prosecutor Christopher Quinlan emphasized that the offences were aggravated by the victims' youth and that Russell had attempted to silence the girls, instructing them to keep quiet about what was happening.

Nevertheless, the judge emphasized the seriousness of the offences and the need to protect the community.
As part of the court's ruling, a sexual offences prevention order was issued, explicitly banning Russell from having any contact with children under the age of 16, except for his own family members. Additionally, Russell was prohibited from working with children for the rest of his life and is required to register as a sex offender for the duration of his life.
Prosecutor Quinlan highlighted the severity of the crimes, noting that Russell not only touched the victims inappropriately but also coerced one of the girls into performing a sex act on him. The defense, led by Michael Cullum, described Russell as a man of previously good character, whose conduct throughout the trial was
