SERIAL WOMAN ABUSER'S JAIL SENTENCE DOUBLED AFTER COURT APPEAL
A man named Mark Rooney, aged 35, has been involved in multiple acts of violence and abuse towards women.He threatened one partner with a baseball bat and later assaulted another woman, knocking her unconscious and breaking her arm.
Rooney was originally sentenced to 42 weeks in prison at Liverpool Crown Court in October after pleading guilty to charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm and harassment.
His sentence was later found to be unduly lenient by the Court of Appeal, which increased it to 74 weeks.
Rooney's history includes forming a "volatile" relationship with his first complainant, during which he assaulted her and behaved threatening during a holiday in September 2021.
He then forced his way into her home armed with a baseball bat, making threats and sending threatening messages afterward.
Rooney also caused harm to his second partner, hitting her with a phone, knocking her unconscious, and causing her to break her arm.
He continued to threaten and harass her through messages and voice notes.
Rooney was also diagnosed with mental health issues and cocaine abuse.
Following the appeals court's decision, Rooney’s prison time was extended, and he received a more severe sentence.
The Solicitor General highlighted his shameful conduct and the terror inflicted upon his victims, emphasizing that such actions are unacceptable.
