MARK OSBORNE FROM NORTON SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS FOR RAPE OF 4-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN STOKE-ON-TRENT
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Norton and the wider Stoke-on-Trent area, Mark Osborne, a 31-year-old bricklayer, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of heinous crimes involving a young girl. The incident, which took place in May 2018, involved Osborne raping a four-year-old girl, an act that has left many residents in disbelief and concern over safety and justice.According to court reports, the young girl immediately reported the abuse to her guardians following the incident, demonstrating a level of awareness and bravery that is commendable given her age. The case was brought before Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where Osborne faced a trial that concluded this week. During the proceedings, he was convicted of the serious charges of raping a child under the age of 13 and sexually assaulting a child under 13. However, he was acquitted of the charge of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, indicating that the court did not find sufficient evidence to support that particular allegation.
Judge Stephen Thomas, presiding over the case, sentenced Osborne to a total of 12 years in prison. This sentence was structured to include 11 years of actual custody, with an additional one-year period of extended licence, which is a common measure for serious sexual offences to ensure ongoing monitoring and supervision after release. Furthermore, Osborne was ordered to comply with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which will remain in effect until further notice, restricting his activities and contact to prevent any potential reoffending. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, a requirement that ensures continuous monitoring and public awareness of his status.
Residents of Norton and the surrounding areas have expressed a mixture of relief and concern following the sentencing. The case underscores the importance of vigilance and the need for robust legal measures to protect vulnerable children from predators. The community hopes that justice has been served and that measures are in place to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future.
