BURNTISLAND CRACK DEALER MARK MCLAY FOUND GUILTY OF CHILD SEX OFFENCES AGAINST 11 YEAR OLD CHILD
Kirkcaldy, 2 October 2025 — A Burntisland man, Mark James Mclay, has been found guilty of serious child sexual offences following a trial at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.The offences, which occurred in Markinch in December 2023, involved an 11-year-old girl.
After a four-day trial, the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict on charges of sexual assault by penetration.
During the proceedings, the court heard detailed evidence from the prosecution and the defence.
Mclay denied the allegations claiming that his DNA was found in the childs private area due to a 'Starburst wrapper' he had opened to which the child is supposedly to have placed it down her underwear, offering an alternative explanation for the incident, but the jury rejected his account and found him guilty on all counts.
The presiding judge told Mclay that he should expect a lengthy custodial sentence, citing the seriousness of the offences and the vulnerability of the victim.
Mclay was remanded in custody and is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on 27 October 2025.
