MILLIONAIRE PROPERTY INVESTOR FINED FOR THREATENING PREGNANT EX TO HAVE ABORTION
A multi-millionaire property investor named Mark Emlick, aged 52, has confessed to threatening his former partner in an attempt to coerce her into having an abortion. The incident occurred when he confronted her at her parents’ residence in Kinross, while she was approximately five months pregnant.
Court proceedings revealed that Emlick and the woman had been in a relationship for roughly a year but parted ways after disagreements over her pregnancy.
The depute fiscal, Carol Whyte, stated that Emlick "began to rant at the complainer, saying he despised her", and that he told her, "You have ruined my life these last 10 months but I’ll tell you this, you’re finished and I’ll make sure you’re finished." Furthermore, he referred to the unborn child as a "problem" he would take care of.
The woman’s parents described Emlick’s demeanor during the confrontation as "threatening, intimidating and aggressive".
It was also established that Emlick explicitly expressed his desire for her not to continue with the pregnancy and sought to persuade her to have a termination.
In court, Emlick pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on February 8 of the previous year, trying to influence her decision regarding the abortion, and instilling fear and alarm through his actions.
The sheriff at Perth Sheriff Court imposed a fine of £700 on him.
