The court was told that Mrs.
Dyson, 53, was found at the residence shortly after concerns had been raised about her safety.
Post-mortem tests revealed she had been killed by asphyxiation; court reports described her death as the result of a 'cruel and merciless strangulation.' Dyson was convicted and sentenced to 14 years imprisonment.
Lancashire Police released a statement stating, 'This is a tragic case and our thoughts remain with Carole Dyson's family and friends.' Detective Inspector John Roy commented on Dyson’s guilty plea, noting that it avoided the need for a trial and underscoring the tragedy involved in the case.
