ESSEX MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR KILLING HIS FORMER PARTNER IN JEALOUS RAGE
Mark Czapla, described as a man with a paranoid and aggressive demeanor, was found guilty of the murder of his ex-partner, Kirsty Humphrey, at her residence in Essex. The court was informed that his motive stemmed from jealousy when he assaulted 23-year-old Kirsty in their living room in Colchester on September 4.
Czapla, a groundskeeper by profession, initially denied the killing but was convicted on the Wednesday following the trial.
Judge Christopher Ball QC sentenced him to serve at least 23 years behind bars, characterizing him as an "emotional bully." It was also disclosed that Czapla exhibited obsessive jealousy and a controlling attitude, with his paranoia and aggression exacerbated by cocaine abuse.
After stabbing Kirsty to death, he fled the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Werrett described Czapla as a "coward," criticizing his refusal to attend court to hear the evidence against him.
Czapla opted not to testify during the proceedings.
Kirsty’s mother and stepfather remembered her as a "beautiful person, always happy and smiling." Evidence revealed that cocaine abuse played a role in intensifying his violent and paranoid tendencies leading up to the homicide.
