CONTROLLING HUSBAND SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR KILLING WIFE
A 50-year-old man named Mark Arthur has been found guilty of manslaughter after he fatally stabbed his wife, Heather Arthur, at their residence in Gosforth, Newcastle, during April.Although he confessed to causing her death, he denied intentionally murdering her.
During the trial, it was revealed that Heather was discovered dead after the assault, which reportedly occurred after Mark learned she was having an affair with a fellow jazz musician.
The court sentenced him to life in prison, with a minimum term of 18 years.
Evidence presented during the trial included allegations of controlling behavior by Mark, such as placing a tracking device on Heather’s phone and removing door handles to restrict her movements.
These actions contributed to Heather’s tragic death, prompting grief from her family and the court.
The judge characterized the attack as deliberate and with an intent to kill, noting that Mark “plunged the knife straight into her heart.” Heather’s father, Alan Naylor, described her as a “proud and loving mother” and expressed that her passing was a significant loss for the family, highlighting she was “the best daughter one could wish for.”
