EXHALL MAN MARCUS PICK SENTENCED FOR COLLECTING THOUSANDS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES IN NUNEATON
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities of Exhall and Nuneaton, Marcus Pick, a man aged 43, was sentenced to prison after being found in possession of an extensive collection of illegal and highly disturbing images of children. The investigation into Pick’s activities began in June when police executed a search warrant at his residence, which was located in Exhall. During the raid, authorities confiscated his computer and an external hard drive, uncovering a staggering number of over 27,000 indecent images of minors, along with several movies depicting similar content.Among the images discovered, investigators identified 16 that were classified at the most severe level, known as level five. Prosecutor Peter Grice detailed the nature of these particularly heinous images, describing them as depicting a “12-year-old girl, dressed in erotic clothing, handcuffed, chained, and suspended from a ceiling.” This revelation underscored the disturbing severity of the material that Pick had amassed.
Throughout the investigation, Pick was interviewed on three separate occasions. During these sessions, he maintained a stance of silence, replying with “no comment” to all questions posed by authorities. However, during one of the interviews, he made a brief remark mentioning that his house had been set on fire while he was on bail at an address different from his own, hinting at possible retaliation or other issues related to his case.
Pick, who was formerly residing in Nuneaton but at the time of sentencing was living on Hayes Lane in Exhall, faced multiple charges in Coventry Crown Court. He was charged with seven counts of making indecent images of children. The court heard that Pick had downloaded these illegal images and movies from a file-sharing service, but there was no evidence to suggest that he had distributed or shared the material with others.
The timeline of Pick’s offending behavior spanned from August 2010 to January 2013, a period during which his marriage was reportedly breaking down, and his children were living away from him. Despite the severity of his actions, Pick had no prior criminal convictions and chose to plead guilty to all charges at the earliest opportunity, which was seen as a mitigating factor in his sentencing.
On the day of sentencing, Pick appeared in court dressed casually in a faded Superman T-shirt, with his hair tied back in a ponytail. Judge Phillip Gregory sentenced him to eight months in prison, emphasizing the gravity of his offenses. The judge stated, “You appear to have an unhealthy sexual interest in relatively young girls — particularly those around the age of 10 to 15. That sexual interest led you into downloading images of young children, a very significant number at level one, images of children posing. But 16 images were at level five, which involves sadism.”
Judge Gregory further explained that the pre-sentence report indicated Pick was cautious about the risks associated with his behavior, making it difficult for police to detect his activities. He highlighted that such images contribute to the ongoing degradation of children, created by those who produce such material for profit. The judge concluded with a stern warning, “It must be clearly understood that if you have images as vile as these relating to the sexual degradation of children, you will be punished accordingly.”
