MAN JAILED FOR SERIES OF VIOLENT ATTACKS ON GIRLFRIEND
A resident of Waterbeach received a 14-month prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple attacks on his partner, which included acts of strangulation and threats to her life.Marcus Kazeem, residing on Capper Road, first assaulted his girlfriend shortly after their relationship began in January, when he slapped her, causing her to split her lip, because he believed she was looking at another man.
Over the subsequent months, he committed several more acts of violence against her.
On 14 March, Kazeem injured her again by throwing a television during an argument, an incident he later denied to police, claiming he had only nudged the television.
Less than a week afterward, he violently forced her head into a cabinet after becoming upset over a comment she made.
He then started to strangle her and expressed a desire to kill her.
The woman managed to escape and contacted authorities.
Although Kazeem initially denied the assaults in police interviews, he later pleaded guilty to charges including actual bodily harm and three counts of assault by beating at Cambridge Crown Court on 24 April.
He received a sentence of 14 months and was subject to an indefinite restraining order preventing contact with the victim, whose courage was commended by Cambridgeshire Police.
DC Steve Surtees commented: “Kazeem’s attacks on his girlfriend must have been nothing short of terrifying for her.
“No person should have to suffer this kind of abuse.
I would like to applaud her bravery in coming forward and encourage anyone else suffering from domestic abuse to do the same.
“Tackling domestic abuse is one of our main priorities and I hope this sends a clear message that we are there for victims and will do all we can to protect them.”
